Our Core Values

Genuine Worship

The grace of God should result in personal intimacy with Him through effectual prayer, heartfelt praise and transparent living. We believe worship is not a Sunday morning event, but a lifestyle of walking with God.

Authentic Community

Believers united by Christ to worship, love and serve one another in the real world with real faith, forgiveness and grace. We believe that mentoring believers is vital to the life of the church.

Biblical Authority

An ever-changing culture demands a solid anchor for discovering the truth. We believe that the Word of God is absolute truth, relevant and reliable for every generation.

Missional Living

The life-changing message of Christ must be seen and heard in our living, both locally and globally. We are HIS witnesses.

Sacrificial Giving

God calls us to be faithful in the stewardship of our time, talents and tithe. We acknowledge that all resources come from the hand of God and we are accountable to Him for their use.

Our Doctrinal Truths

An ever changing culture demands a solid anchor for discovering the truth. We believe that the Word of God is absolute truth, relevant and reliable for every generation. The doctrinal truths we hold dear are:

 God

God is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has eternally existed in three persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. These three are co-equal and are one God.

The Father

He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving and all wise. He reigns with providential care over the universe and the flow of human history moves according to His purpose and plan.

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father. Jesus has eternally existed and became man at His incarnation. He lived a sinless human life and offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice for the sins of all people by dying on a cross. His body arose from the dead after three days to demonstrate His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory and will return again someday to earth to reign as King of King and Lord of Lords.

Holy Spirit

He is the third person of the Trinity. He guides men into all truth; exalts Christ; convicts of sin; of righteousness and of judgement; cultivates Christian character; comforts believers; bestows spiritual gifts by which believers serve God with; and seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the lives of believers is the assurance of God to bring us into the fullness of the stature of Christ.

Baptism

We believe scriptural baptism must be: (1) by being completely immersed under the water, and (2) must be after salvation. Baptism has no saving power but is the first act of obedience symbolizing (1) the believer’s faith in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus and (2) the believer’s death to sin and resurrection to walk a new life in Christ.

Scripture

The Bible is God’s Word to us. It is written by human authors, under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living.

Human Beings

People are made in the image of God and are the supreme object of God’s creation. All of us are marred by an attitude of disobedience and corresponding actions toward God called sin. Sin separates people from God and causes many problems in life.

Salvation

Salvation is God’s free gift to us, but we must accept it. We can never make up for our sin by self-improvement or good works. Only by accepting Jesus Christ as God’s offer of forgiveness can anyone be saved from sin’s penalty. When we turn from our self-ruled life and turn to Jesus in faith we are saved. Eternal life begins the moment one receives Jesus Christ into his life by faith.

Eternal Security

Because God gives us eternal life through Jesus Christ, the true believer is secure in that salvation for eternity. If you have been genuinely saved, you cannot “lose” your salvation. Salvation is maintained by the grace and power of God, not by the self-effort of the Christian. It is the grace and keeping power of God that gives us this security.

Eternity

People were created to exist forever. We will either exist eternally separated from God by sin, or eternally with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally with Him is Heaven.

Westmeade Baptist Church

Church Covenant

By the grace of God, and for His glory and our joy, we, the members of Westmeade Baptist Church, affirm this covenant with one another:

Having been brought by divine grace to repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and to surrender our lives to Him, and having been baptized as Christians in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, we covenant together to glorify God by making disciples of all nations.

(Ac. 2:38; 16:31; 20:21; Rom. 10:9-10; Lk. 14:25-33; Ac. 2:41; Rom. 6:1-4; Is. 43:7; 1 Cor. 10:31; Mt. 28:18-20; 2 Tim. 2:2; Ps. 67:1-2; Rev. 7:9-10)

Together, we will draw near to God in worship. We will delight in the glory of God, depend on the presence of God, grow in the knowledge of God, and submit to the Word of God as the all-sufficient authority in our lives and in His church.

(Heb. 10:22; Rom. 12:1-2; Ps. 16:11; 37:4; 63:1-11; Ex. 33:14-18; Mt. 28:20; Jn. 15:5; Jas. 4:8; Php. 3:10; Col. 1:9-12; 2 Pet. 3:17-18; 2 Tim. 3:14-4:5; Ps. 19:7-11; 119:105-112)

Together, we will hold fast to the hope we profess. We will regularly participate in communion as we solemnly and joyfully remember the past work of Christ on the cross, celebrate the present work of Christ at the Father’s right hand, and anticipate the future work of Christ in His return for His bride.

(Heb. 10:23; Lk. 22:7-23; Ac. 2:42; 1 Cor. 11:23-32)

Together, we will spur one another on to love and good deeds. We will meet with one another consistently, pray for one another regularly, and serve one another selflessly. We will share each other’s joys and bear each other’s burdens. We will edify one another with our speech and encourage one another with our example. We will humbly and gently confront one another and receive correction from one another in accordance with a New Testament understanding of church discipline and restoration. We will give cheerfully and generously to the support of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.

(Heb. 10:24-25; Php. 1:3-6; Rom. 12:9-13; 1 Cor. 12:26; 2 Cor. 2:3; Gal. 6:2; Eph. 4:29-32; 1 Cor. 10:31-11:1; Php. 4:9; Mt. 18:15-20;1 Cor. 5:1-13; Gal. 6:1; 2 Cor. 8-9)

We will submit to the leadership of pastors who have been entrusted by God to serve and care for this body by teaching the Word of Christ to us and modeling the character of Christ before us, and we will affirm deacons as leading servants in the church.

(Heb. 13:17; Ac. 6:1-7; 20:28-31; 1 Tim. 3:1-13; 5:17-20; 1 Pet. 5:1-4)

If we move from this local body, we will as soon as possible unite in membership with another church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.

(Ac. 18:27-28; Rom. 16:1-2; 1 Cor. 15:58; Col. 3:23; Heb. 10:24-25)

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.

(2 Cor. 13:14)

Our History

Westmeade began over 50 years ago with a group of believers from several local congregations coming together to plant a church in the rapidly developing south west area of Decatur. It has been a remarkable journey covered in God’s fingerprints. We have come a long way, but so many more opportunities for Kingdom growth await.
